HOW TO WASH AT HOME (WITH CARE)
Understanding that silk is a natural protein fiber, known for its softness, luster, and delicate texture, proper care is crucial to maintain its beauty, shape and its longevity.
Heres what you need & instructions on how to care for your silk item at home...We kindly ask that you are very careful!
WASHING AT HOME
WHAT YOU NEED
Always read the Care Label before you begin, always check the care label on your silk dress. It provides essential information about how the garment should be cleaned.
Mild detergent (specifically for silk or delicate fabrics)
White vinegar
Cold water
A clean towel
A drying rack or padded hanger
STEP 1
Prepare The Washing Solution
Fill a basin or sink with lukewarm or cold water. Hot water can damage silk fibers. Just add a small amount of mild detergent designed for delicate fabrics or you can also use baby shampoo as an alternative.
To be safe we encourage you to dip a small corner of the fabric in the water to make sure the fabric dye doesn't run (just in case). If the colour stays fixed, its good to go!
STEP 2
Wash Your Item Gently. Very Gently
Submerge the dress in the water and gently agitate it with your hands. Avoid rubbing or wringing the fabric, as this can damage the fibers. We recommend letting the dress soak for about 3-5 minutes, gently swirling it occasionally.
STEP 3
Rinse Thoroughly & Use Some White Vinegar
Drainthe soapy water and refill the basin with cold, clean water. Then add a tablespoon of white vinegar to the rinse water. Vinegar helps remove any remaining soap residue and restores the fabric’s natural pH balance.
Finally, swirl the dress gently through the water to rinse out the detergent. Repeat this rinsing process with cold clean water again if necessary.
STEP 4
ROLL IT UP TO Remove Excess Water
Lay a clean, dry towel on a flat surface & place the dress flat onto the towel, then roll the towel up with the dress inside the towel to gently squeeze out excess water. Do not twist or wring the towel.
Then unroll the towel and carefully reshape the dress if necessary. Lay the dress flat on a drying rack or a clean, dry towel in a shaded, well ventilated area. We strongly urge you to avoid direct sunlight as sunlight can fade the gentle silk fabric. Alternatively, you may wish to hang the dress on a padded hanger to air dry.
Ensure the hanger doesn’t have any sharp edges that might damage the fabric.
STEP 5
Ironing And Steaming
If your silk dress is wrinkled, you can iron it on a low setting. Place a clean cloth or towel between the iron and the dress to prevent direct heat contact.
Steaming is another safe option for removing wrinkles. If you dont own a steamer, we suggest you hang your dry silk dress on a hanger in your shower room while you have a warm shower. The steam will help to remove light
wrinkling.
STEP 6
Storing Silk Properly
Make the most of your dress by storing it properly so it looks & feels fresh every time you need it. Just store your silk dress in a cool, dry wardrobe. Use padded hangers to maintain the dress’s shape if you can. Avoid using plastic bags, as they can trap moisture and cause mildew build up on the dress.
Instead, use a breathable garment bag.
